So you want to be a judgemental asshole.
This goes out to everyone who thinks that they’re just oh so much better than my generation, better than all of us kids who like indie and emo and power punk and wear v-neck shirts and eyeliner and have swoopy hair and gauged ears and tattoos and piercings and all the other trends we all made popular. to everyone who thinks they’re so much more “original” than us, and therefore so much more qualified to breathe.
stop. we’ve never wanted your opinion.
this rant was set off by this article: 5 of the Worst Trends in Music Today.
it was posted on the Gibson website, by someone named Jonah Bayer, who obviously thinks himself an expert on being a judgemental asshole.the article goes through and looks at 5 trends that Bayer thinks are stupid. trends that bayer has probably never cared about followed by kids who Bayer doesn’t know and has never met, who he thinks himself qualified to judge because he sees them walking around and thinks they’re rather dumb for no reason.
the 5 trends are Swoopy hair, Deep v-necks, full tattoo sleeves, pop-covers (ex: punk goes crunk), and really long song/album titles.
and while yes, these things get overdone. some people take it too far, sure, but that doesn’t mean that every single person who follows the trend is doing it BECAUSE its a trend. Because following things because they’re trendy is sort of dumb, but doing something because thats what you like, because you really like a certain band or you feel connected to a certain type of music. Don’t bash a trend if you have no personal experience with it.

“I agree! Its about time someone put these ridiculous trends in the spot light. I can’t wait for this generation to get old and realize how much they’ve done to themselves which they can’t take back. And with the way the world is today, (Instant Messaging, Texting, etc.) people have severely lost touch with their grammatical roots which, to me, is a shame. Excuse me? What we’ve done to OURSELVES? We’re just trying to pick up the pieces from what everyone else has been doing for years. We’re the ones that are going to be left with a shitty economy, a hole in the ozone thats getting bigger, the aftermath of 2 wars that will never be finished and several that are about to start, and every other problem that previous generations have dumped on us. We aren’t the problem. We’re just trying to figure out how to cope in this world.
Oh, and losing touch with our grammatical roots? Excuse me. Obviously this person hasn’t really talked to anyone from my generation, I don’t know a single person who uses bad grammar outside of texting. In fact, half of my friends are fantastic writers, and almost everyone I know keeps a blog and is very eloquent on it.
So maybe all the other generations should start “growing up” and taking responsibility for the problems they started that we have to finish. Because i’m tired of hearing “oh, those stupid scene kids, I can’t wait for them to grow up.” or something like that. I’m tired of people judging everyone based on how they look.

My God, how ridiculous certain people can be. Doesn’t anyone remember outrageous trends all through the sixties, seventies and eighties? I’m pretty sure none of these things are new and obscene.
“I can’t wait for them to grow up” haha, this makes me laugh. Aren’t most of the trends nowadays based on trends from the eighties? Like all the weirdly matched colors and leggings for pants? I can’t wait for us to grow up too, and watch as the trends of our children follow the trends of today.
